history

In January 2015, the American Hockey League (AHL) announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was founded. As a result, all California- based ECHL franchises gave way to new AHL teams. This also affected the Bakersfield Condors , which were replaced by an AHL franchise of the same name , were relocated to Norfolk and took over the identity of the Admirals, including their logo and venue. This was only possible, however, because the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL also moved to California on the same train and henceforth operate as San Diego Gulls . In addition, the Admirals became the second Norfolk-based ECHL team after the Hampton Roads Admirals . Cooperation partners of the new Condors and Admirals are the Edmonton Oilers . Jean-François Houle , who had already looked after the Bakersfield Condors the year before, was introduced as the first head coach of the Admirals .

After two years, the cooperation with the Edmonton Oilers ended, so that a new NHL partner was found in the Nashville Predators . However, this collaboration was discontinued after a few weeks in November 2017. With the beginning of the 2018/19 season, the Admirals cooperated with the Arizona Coyotes , but this cooperation only lasted one season.
