The Texas Wildcatters were an American ice hockey franchise based in Beaumont , Texas . The Wildcatters' venue was the Ford Arena .
history
The franchise was founded in the summer of 2003 and began operating in the ECHL . Head coach was Robert Dirk , who had played in his playing career in the NHL. The Wildcatters played a disappointing first season: With only 50 points, they finished last in the Central Division. In the following season, the Wildcatters undercut these performances and could only score 45 points. The team suspended the 2005/06 season and returned to the ECHL a year later. The performances of the Wildcatters improved enormously, with 91 points in regular time they finished the season in second place in the Southern Division and made it into the play-offs for the first time. In the second round of the play-offs, the Gwinnett Gladiators were defeated in four games. The third round was even, but the Wildcatters were subject to the Florida Everblades in six games . In the 2007/08 season, the Wildcatters managed to increase their point yield again during the regular season. With 115 points, the Texans won the Southern Division for the first time and gained the most points in the league together with the Cincinnati Cyclones . In the first play-off round, the Mississippi Sea Wolves were defeated in four games, but in the second round the Texans were narrowly defeated by the Columbia Inferno in five games. The franchise was then dissolved and relocated to Ontario , California , where a new franchise was established under the name Ontario Reign .
