John Snowden (born January 12, 1982 in Anchorage , Alaska ) is a retired American ice hockey player and current coach . He spent his active career exclusively in minor leagues and briefly ran for the Starbulls Rosenheim . Since January 2019 he has been the head coach of the Newfoundland Growlers in the ECHL .

Career

Snowden played during his time as a junior player from 1998 to 2003 for the American junior national team in the North American Hockey League and the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League .

After he was not considered in any NHL Entry Draft , he moved to the professional camp undrafted for the 2003/04 season. There he signed a contract with the Texas Wildcatters in the ECHL , to which he remained loyal for two seasons. In the course of the game year 2004/05 he came to a use in the American Hockey League with the Utah Grizzlies . After he had spent the following season with the Greenville Grrrowl in the ECHL and this time completed two AHL missions for the Norfolk Admirals , the American moved again within the ECHL for the 2006/07 season. He ran the season for the Reading Royals before moving to Europe for the Starbulls Rosenheim in the German ice hockey league for the 2007/08 season. At Snowden's request, his contract with the Starbulls Rosenheim was terminated on January 20, 2008. Subsequently, Snowden played again in the ECHL for the Idaho Steelheads. In the following years he was in various teams from the Central Hockey League and International Hockey League in action before the defender ended his active career after the 2013/14 season.

Snowden then worked as an assistant trainer at the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL from 2015 to 2018 , before moving to the Newfoundland Growlers in the same role in the 2018/19 season. There he took over the position of head coach from Ryane Clowe in January 2019 , who had resigned for health reasons.
