The Lake Jipe (sometimes Djipesee) is a lake on the border between Tanzania and Kenya .
location
It lies at an altitude of 704 m and is fed by streams that arise on Kilimanjaro or the Pare Mountains . On the Kenyan side, it borders the Tsavo West National Park .
ecology
The deterioration of the water quality and the sinking level of the lake aggravate the situation for the threatened Oreochromis jipe and have caused fishing in the lake to collapse. It is estimated that the lake has shrunk by 80 percent in the last 40 years. While data is sparse on the lake, it is believed that its storage capacity has decreased from more than 60 million cubic meters of water to 20 million cubic meters in the past 10 years.
Nevertheless, the lake is considered to be one of the most important refuges for waterfowl in Kenya.
