Scott Champagne (born May 30, 1983 in Cornwall , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was active among others with the Ravensburg Towerstars and Eispiraten Crimmitschau in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey .
Career
Champagne first played ice hockey with the Gloucester Rangers in the Canadian Jr. A Hockey League , a junior league in the greater Ottawa area , before receiving an athletic scholarship in the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 2003 . From 2003 he played college hockey for four years at Mercyhurst College in Erie . At the Mercyhurst Lakers, he increased steadily in the first three years and won the championship in the Atlantic Hockey Conference in 2005 , where he was tournament MVP . Champagne finished his college career with 141 points in 134 games. He holds the Lakers record for the longest series of points - the left winger has scored in 35 games in a row.
After graduating, he played three more games as an amateur tryout for the Texas Wildcatters in the ECHL , where he finally got a contract for the 2007/08 season. This season the Wildcatters were the second best team in the ECHL after the regular season and Champagne was fifth best scorer with 47 points in his rookie season. After the team was eliminated in the second play-off round and was sold to California in the summer, the left-handed shooter went to Europe for Totempo HvIK , who had been promoted to the AL-Bank Ligaen in the previous season. There the Canadian had 26 points in 30 games. In January 2009, the club had to file for bankruptcy after the exit of two major sponsors and Champagne moved to Sweden in the same month to the Nybro Vikings in HockeyAllsvenskan . There he completed eight games and could not prevent the Vikings from relegating to third-class Division I.
He then went to Germany, where he signed a contract with the Eispiraten Crimmitschau for the 2009/10 season and was top scorer there with 49 points. After the season, Champagne left the Ice Pirates and joined the Tohoku Free Blades from the Asia League Ice Hockey . With these he won the championship of the ALIH in the 2010/11 season. In June 2011 the Canadian was signed by the Nottingham Panthers from the Elite Ice Hockey League , which he left in December of the same year to join the Ravensburg Towerstars .
