The Great iris ( Iris magnifica ) is a plant from the kind of irises ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).

features

The Great Iris is a perennial bulb plant that reaches heights of 25 to 60 centimeters. The stem links are visible during flowering. The leaves are 3 to 5 inches wide and glossy green. The front of the nail is greatly widened to 2.5 to 3 centimeters. The plate is narrower than the nail. It has a yellow zone on both sides of the whitish ridge. The standards are 2 to 3 centimeters long, obverse-shaped and bent horizontally to down. The 3 to 7 flowers are up to 7.5 centimeters in diameter and are pigeon blue to light purple in color, sometimes white.

The flowering time is in April, it rarely lasts until May.

Occurrence

The great iris occurs in the Pamir in the mountains of Samarkand on locations with little fine soil and in the limestone crevices of the lower mountain range.

use

The great iris is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. It has been in culture since 1880 at the latest.
