Daniel Sparre (born October 16, 1984 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who is used in the position of attacking player.
Career
Daniel Sparre began his career in 2001 in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League at the Streetsville Derbys . The following year he moved to the Victoriaville Tigres in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League . After one and a half seasons, the Canadian with German ancestors joined league rivals Halifax Mooseheads , where he played until 2005. In the final for the Coupe du Président 2005, Sparre and his team lost against Rimouski Océanic, led by Sidney Crosby . Despite his successful junior years, the attacker was not considered in the NHL Entry Draft , which was mainly attributed to deficits in body play. This was also confirmed by a league-wide poll that found Sparre among the most talented players not selected by any NHL team.
The right-handed shooter finally made his professional debut in the 2005/06 season for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League . He also played part of the season for the Charlotte Checkers in the ECHL . From 2006 to 2007 Sparre was active for the Texas Wildcatters . The next year he went on the ice for Columbia Inferno from the ECHL. In addition, the attacking player played some games for the Springfield Falcons and Albany River Rats in the AHL.
For the 2008/09 season the Canadians moved to Europe in the Italian Serie A . With the SG Pontebba , however, he only reached the last place. For the 2009/10 season Sparre signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . Since the striker had had German citizenship since 2009, he did not fall under the quota of foreigners in the Sauerland . At the side of his brother Kris and Mads Christensen , he played in the third row at the beginning of the season and scored in three consecutive games in September 2009. At the beginning of November Sparre got two new strikers in Jeff Giuliano and Brian Swanson to give his row more penetration. This succeeded, so that he was the Roosters fourth-best scorer with 15 goals. After the end of the season it became known that he had already signed a contract with another club. In July 2010 he switched to the Kölner Haien . After a season Sparre left Cologne and joined league rivals Straubing Tigers .
For the 2013/2014 season, Daniel Sparre moved within the German ice hockey league up the Isar to EHC Red Bull Munich , where he finished second on the scorer list with 38 points in the main round (16 goals / 22 assists) in his first year. In 2016 he became German champion with the Munich team, a few days later Adler Mannheim announced Sparre's commitment. He signed a contract until 2019. After the 2017/18 season , his contract with the Adler was terminated, and due to injury problems, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg signed the winger in September 2018 . With 40 points Sparre became the most successful scorer of the grizzlies in the 2018/19 season .
An obligation of the player already signed by ERC Ingolstadt for the 2019/20 season was canceled by Sparre in July 2019 for personal reasons.
family
Daniel Sparre is the brother of Kris Sparre , who is also a professional ice hockey player. The brothers played together in the 2007/08 season for Columbia Inferno in the ECHL and during the 2009/10 season for the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League .
