Kris Sparre (born January 12, 1987 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. During his playing career he spent six seasons in the German Ice Hockey League and two in the DEL2 . Since 2019 he has been an assistant coach on the EC Red Bull Salzburg coaching staff .

Career

Kris Sparre began his career in 2003 in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League with the Brampton Capitals . The next year he played for league rivals Mississauga Chargers . In the 2005/06 season he played for four teams. These were again the Chargers and the Couchiching Terriers from the OPJHL, the Halifax Mooseheads from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Barrie Colts from the Ontario Hockey League , for which the Canadian played 23 games. The next year he was fourth-best scorer of his team and was able to qualify for the play-offs with the Colts . Shortly after the start of the 2007/08 season, Sparre moved to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors , for whom he played in 56 games.

At the end of the season, the striker signed his first professional contract with the Columbia Inferno from the ECHL . In the summer of 2008 he moved to league rivals Idaho Steelheads . After reaching the play-offs followed the end in the quarterfinals, where the series lost 4-0 to the Victoria Salmon Kings .

For the 2009/10 season , Kris Sparre signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League and went hunting for goals together with his brother Daniel Sparre . His contract was initially only on a try-out basis and could be terminated at any time during the first two months. The Roosters did not make use of this option. Kris Sparre was scheduled as a striker for the fourth row and, like his brother, did not fall under the foreign contingent due to a German passport. But he started the season at the side of his brother and Mads Christensen in the third row. He scored his first goal in the away win against the Frankfurt Lions when he overcame Ian Gordon in the penalty shootout with a slap shot . After changes in the team, Sparre played from November 2009, as originally planned, mostly in the fourth row and scored four more goals. After the season he extended his contract for a year. In May 2011 he received a one-year contract with ERC Ingolstadt , which was extended to 2014 in November of the same year.

After he no longer played a role in the planning for the 2013/14 season at Ingolstadt, he was signed up by league competitor Eisbären Berlin in September 2013 due to injuries with the capital city team until the end of 2013. Even if he could not quite meet expectations in the first three months, the option of terminating the contract at the end of the year was not taken by the club and Sparre remained a polar bear until the end of the season .

He started the 2014/15 season with the Dresdner Eislöwen in the second highest German ice hockey league , in which he was able to score 52 points in 30 games and thus again aroused the interest of DEL teams. Since his assignment with the Eislöwen was initially only agreed until the end of 2014, he then accepted the offer from Düsseldorfer EG and played in the DEL again until the end of the season . The start at his new club was very successful, with two goals at the DEL Winter Game against the Kölner Haie on January 10, 2015, he made a decisive contribution to the victory for Düsseldorf. In the 2015/16 season he was under contract with the Löwen Frankfurt from the DEL2 , after the season the employment relationship was terminated.

Then Sparre ended his playing career and was assistant coach with the Niagara IceDogs from the Ontario Hockey League .

family

Kris Sparre is the brother of Daniel Sparre , who is also a professional ice hockey player. The brothers played together in the 2007/08 season for Columbia Inferno in the ECHL and during the 2009/10 season for the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League .
