Derek Joslin (born March 17, 1987 in Richmond Hill , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since 2019 .
Career
Joslin began his career in the 2003/04 season with the Aurora Tigers in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League , a junior junior league. At the end of the season he made his first seven appearances in the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67’s , to whose permanent staff he was one of the following season. With 30 points in 68 games, the offensive defender completed a successful rookie season , which led to him being selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in 149th place by the San Jose Sharks . In the 2005/06 season, Joslin was able to increase his point yield by a further 18 points compared to the previous year. As a reward, he came after the end of the OHL season to his first appearances in the American Hockey League for the then farm team of the San Jose Sharks, the Cleveland Barons . The same scenario was repeated in the 2006/07 season with the difference that the Canadian scored one point more in the OHL and this time came to use with the Worcester Sharks , the new farm team San Joses.
For the 2007/08 season , Joslin finally moved permanently to the professional camp and immediately worked out a regular place in the defense of Worcester Sharks and completed all 80 games of the season. With 34 scorer points - including ten goals - in his first professional playing time, he was the second best defensive player on his team on the offensive, but with the second largest negative plus / minus value of all players, he was one of the weak points on the defensive. In the 2008/09 season , in which he was appointed one of the assistant captains, Joslin's values improved significantly on the defensive, but his offensive yield did not suffer. His increase in performance was rewarded in January 2009 with his first appointment and debut in the National Hockey League . In addition, a few days later he received his first invitation to the AHL All-Star Classic , where he was voted into the starting line-up of the Canadian All-Star Team by the fans . Also in the 2009/10 season , the Canada's missions were divided between the AHL and NHL, before he was part of the Sharks' NHL squad from the 2010/11 season . Joslin rarely came to missions, after which he was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes on February 18, 2011 .
On July 5, 2012, Joslin signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks . The contract expired a year later and Joslin moved to AIK Stockholm as a free agent . After his club was relegated to the second Swedish league, he decided to move to Germany, where he signed a one-year contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in April 2014 . He then completed the 2015/16 season in Nuremberg, and subsequently - in May 2016 - switched to the DEL competitor EHC Munich and won the championship title with the team in 2017 and 2018.
