John Hughes (born January 6, 1988 in Whitby , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since July 2014 .
Career
John Hughes began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 2004 to 2008 for the Belleville Bulls and the Brampton Battalion . In his last OHL season he received the Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy as the top scorer among the right wingers. The Canadian then received a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg from the Austrian ice hockey league . Here he was able to convince completely in his rookie year . In a total of 56 games he scored 58 points scorer, 17 of them goals. With a plus / minus balance of +21, he was also the league-wide best player in this category.
The 2009/10 season began Hughes at Tappara Tampere in the Finnish SM-liiga , but left the club after only six games and in December 2009 joined the Hanover Indians from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . For the North Germans he scored 42 scorer points in 36 games by the end of the season, with which he recommended himself for a return to the Austrian ice hockey league. For the 2010/11 season he was signed by the Slovenian capital club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana . From the 2012/13 season John Hughes played for the Austrian EC VSV , where he was one of the crowd's favorites. On March 31, 2014, he was released from his contract - which ran until the end of the season - after completing a pub crawl the night before the decisive semi-final game.
Since July 2014 he has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg again.
