Jean-Philippe Lamoureux (born August 20, 1984 in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since May 2019 .

Career

Lamoureux began his career with the Lincoln Stars in the North American Junior League United States Hockey League , with whom he was able to win the Clark Cup as a playoff winner in the 2002/03 season. Between 2004 and 2008 he played for the University of North Dakota in the WCHA , with which he was able to celebrate his second championship title in 2006. During this time there was also a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award , the award for the best player in the league. When Lamoureux left the team in 2008, he finished second in the school's all-time statistics with an average goal against goals of 2.10, ten shutouts and a catch rate of 92 percent.

Lamoureux had his first professional engagement with the Alaska Aces in the ECHL , where he set a league record with eight shutouts in one season and was voted league goalkeeper of the year . The season brought the team the title of runner-up after the team lost to the South Carolina Stingrays in the seventh game of the Kelly Cup finals . In July 2009 he was signed by the Buffalo Sabers , but only played in their farm team, the Portland Pirates in the AHL . A year later he moved to the Calgary Flames , but was also only used in the farm teams. In June 2011 he was signed by the Slovenian club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana from the Austrian ice hockey league. A year later he moved together with head coach Hannu Järvenpää and other players from Olimpija to EC VSV in Villach.

Lamoureux is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers at the EBEL and has become a crowd favorite for Villach. In the 2014/15 season he was voted Player of the Night four times by fans in home games and received by far the most fan votes over the entire season. In addition, he was named Most Valuable Player of the EC VSV in 2015 and took first place in the main round with a catch quota of 93.4%. Also in the 2015/16 season he was voted player of the evening four times in the main round. At the time of the departure of the VSV in the semi-finals, Lamoureux was the league's strongest goalkeeper with a catch rate of 94.5% and had the best goals against. In the election for the most valuable player in the league ( Ron Kennedy Trophy ), he received the second most votes. From June 2016, the US-American was under contract with the Vienna Capitals and won the Austrian championship with them in 2017 .

Lamoureux signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in May 2019 .

family

Jean-Philippe Lamoureux comes from a family who loves ice hockey. His father Jean-Pierre was a goalkeeper for the University of North Dakota in the early 1980s . He also has three brothers and two sisters who all play or have played ice hockey. His two twin sisters, Monique and Jocelyne , are both internationals for the United States and have won two Olympic silver medals and several world titles.

His brother Jacques studied at the United States Air Force Academy and played for their ice hockey team, where he was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award . Pierre-Paul played for the University of Manitoba and is now on the coaching staff of the ice hockey team. Mario Lamoureux also played for the University of North Dakota in the past , was later active in the ECHL and was on the ice with Jean-Philippe at the EC VSV between February and April 2014.
