Gottfried von Loon

Knight Gottfried von Loon-Heinsberg (* around 1320; † before October 16, 1342 ), since 1336 lord of Millen and Maaseik, was the last offspring of the Counts of Loon-Heinsberg .

Life

Gottfried was the only son of Dietrich von Heinsberg and Kunigunde von der Mark , a niece of the Bishop of Liege, Adolf von der Mark .

In 1336 he married Mechtild von Geldern , the daughter of Duke Rainald II von Geldern and Sophia Berthout . He had an illegitimate son, Godfried van Chiny. In 1339 his father-in-law promised him compensation if he agreed to go to war with France on the English side.

He found his early death on a trip to Prussia .
