Taylor Chorney (born April 27, 1987 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the ICE Hockey League since August 2020 . His father Marc was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Taylor Chorney (2009)

Taylor Chorney initially played for the Shattuck St. Mary’s ice hockey team in the United States high school league system from 2003 to 2005 . He continued his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of North Dakota , in which he was active from 2005 to 2008. He had previously been selected as a junior player in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 36 players by the Edmonton Oilers , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2008/09 season , where he played in two games remained unpunished and punished. The rest of the season the defender spent with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Falcons , for which he scored five goals in 68 games and gave 16 templates. After he was at the beginning of the 2009/10 season four times in the AHL for Springfield to use, Chorney was appointed to the NHL squad of the Oilers, for which he ran regularly in the following years. In October 2011, the Oilers put him on the waiver list , from which the St. Louis Blues selected him. About a month later, Chorney found himself again on the waiver list, so that the Edmonton Oilers brought him back into their roster.

In July 2012 Chorney signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues, but he spent the 2012/13 season almost exclusively with the AHL farm team of the Blues, the Peoria Rivermen . Also at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Chorney was transferred from the expanded squad to the AHL, now to the new farm team, the Chicago Wolves .

After the 2013/14 season he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he completed a total of 12 missions, but was again mainly used in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . After a year, he moved again in July 2015 and signed a one-year contract with Washington Capitals . This was then extended for two years before reaching the Columbus Blue Jackets via the waiver in February 2018 .

In July 2018 Chorney signed a one-year contract with HC Lugano from the National League . In April 2019, his contract was extended for one year.

In August 2020, Chorney was signed by EC Red Bull Salzburg from the ICE Hockey League .

International

For the USA , Chorney took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 , the U20 World Junior Championship in 2006 and 2007 , and the 2010 World Championship .
