The 2015/16 season was the third season of the second highest German ice hockey league under the name DEL2 . It started on September 11, 2015 and ended on April 22, 2016. The game was organized by the ESBG . During the season, the DEL2 Event Game was held for the first time , in which the Dresden Ice Lions met the Lausitzer Füchse in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium in front of 31,853 spectators .
The Kassel Huskies won the DEL2 championship with a 4-0 victory in the play-off final against the Bietigheim Steelers . Since the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven were accepted into the DEL in the summer of 2016, the athletic relegated team, the Heilbronner Falken , remained in the league as a successor.
Attendees
New in the league was the league promoted EHC Freiburg . The EV Landshut was refused the license due to failure to meet the economic requirements. The Heilbronner Falken, who had actually been relegated, subsequently successfully applied for the license to participate in the 2015/2016 DEL2 season. The other possible successors EV Duisburg and EV Regensburg decided not to apply or withdrew them.
