Shawn Weller (born July 8, 1986 in Glens Falls , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been playing for the Tölzer Löwen in the DEL2 since summer 2019 .
Career
Shawn Weller began his career as a hockey player with the Capital District Selects in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. During this time, he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the third round as a total of 77th player by the Ottawa Senators .
He then enrolled at Clarkson University , for their ice hockey team, the Golden Knights , he played for three years in ECAC hockey . In 2007 he won the league championship with the Knights. After the end of the ECAC season, Weller received a three-year NHL entry-level contract from the Senators. By the end of the season he was in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Binghamton Senators , the Ottawa farm team.
In September 2009, the Senators swapped him for Jason Bailey of the Anaheim Ducks . The Ducks then used him at the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL , before he was loaned to the Abbotsford Heat on February 1, 2010 .
At the beginning of August 2013 August Weller decided to move to Europe and signed a one-year contract with Starbulls Rosenheim from the DEL2 . At the Starbulls he was one of the top performers and collected 70 points in 44 main round games, making him fourth-best scorer in the entire DEL2. In the playoffs he scored another 16 points, before he moved within the league to EV Ravensburg in May 2014 .
In December 2014 he moved to the Dresdner Eislöwen within the DEL2 , where the striker was unable to meet the expectations placed on him. For the new season, Weller joined the reigning champion Bietigheim Steelers . After winning the DEL2 title in 2018, he was named the best player in the playoffs.
For the 2019/20 season, Weller is moving to EC Bad Tölz within the DEL2 .
