Kevin Gaudet
Kevin Gaudet (born October 22, 1963 in Moncton , New Brunswick ) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. Since 2019 he has been the head coach of the Tölzer Löwen in the DEL2 .
Career
Kevin Gaudet has played ice hockey with his brothers Oscar and Ronald since he was a child. He was able to celebrate his first successes with the team from the University of Moncton, with which he was twice champion. Gaudet later joined the AHL Moncton Hawks . He has twice received try-out contracts from NHL franchises. As a striker, he was in both the Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota North Stars .
In 1985 he came to Europe and joined HC Val Vanoise from Méribel, France . He stayed there until 1991 and also took on the role of coach.
At the beginning of the 1991/92 season , Gaudet was player-coach at ESC Wedemark , which had its first year in the major league . Under Gaudet's leadership, the goal set for relegation was achieved, in the second league year 1992/93 the team already managed to rise to the second highest division in German ice hockey. The Canadian's greatest success up to then in his coaching career came in 1996, when the team became champions of the first division and thus rose to the highest German division, the German ice hockey league . In the meantime, Gaudet had ended his playing career, but he stayed with his club, which was now called Hannover Scorpions , as a coach until 2000. In 2000 the Canadian was replaced by the Swede Curt Lindström in the coaching office, but at the beginning of the 2000/01 season he returned to the Scorpions gang. The second term in Hanover was short-lived, however, as Gaudet was on leave in January 2001 due to the disappointing sporting situation and was inherited by the Swede Olle Öst .
In December 2001 Kevin Gaudet was head coach at the second division EHC Straubing . He coached the Bavarian club from 2001 to 2004, the team moved into the play-offs twice under the direction of the Canadian, but failed in the first round. During the 2004/05 season , Gaudet left Straubing because he had received an offer from his former employer Hannover Scorpions . In November 2004 he started his third term as head coach of the DEL Club. This lasted until the 2005/06 season , in which the play-off semi-finals could be reached under Gaudet's leadership.
In 2007 the Canadian became head coach of the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Bundesliga , with whom he reached the play-off semi-finals three times by 2011.
From November 25, 2011, Kevin Gaudet was the head coach of the second division ice hockey team Bietigheim Steelers . In his first season with the Steelers, he immediately won the 2011/12 DEB Cup with his new team .
In the 2012/13 season he was able to defend the DEB Cup with his team. In addition, the Steelers won the 2nd Bundesliga championship in the same year and thus made the double perfect. The rise with the Steelers did not succeed, however, as the financially stronger Schwenninger Wild Wings acquired the Hanover Scorpions DEL license . After he failed with the Steelers in the final against the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven in the 2013/14 season , he and his team won the DEL2 championship in the 2014/15 season in the final against the Pinguins. In the 2015/16 season, Gaudet led the Steelers back to the DEL2 final, where they lost to the Kassel Huskies . At the beginning of March 2018, Bietigheim announced that it would have to make financial savings and, for this reason, parted ways with Gaudet at the end of the 2017/18 season. "In no coaching era have the Steelers been more successful and have firmly established themselves as the top team of the DEL2 in the six years of the Gaudet era," the club praised Gaudet's services. At the end of his tenure in Bietigheim-Bissingen, he led the team again to win the DEL2 championship title.
At the beginning of May 2018, Gaudet was introduced as the new head coach of the DEL club Nürnberg Ice Tigers . At the end of September 2018, he resigned from office in Nuremberg due to differing views on team management and tactics. By the time they split up, the Franks under Gaudet had recorded one victory and three defeats in the 2018/19 DEL season.
At the end of May 2019 he was announced as the new coach of the Tölzer Löwen DEL2 club .
