Olle Öst (born March 26, 1943 in Mora ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

As an active player, Olle Öst was under contract with the Swedish first division club Leksands IF from 1960 to 1967 . With Leksands, the striker became Swedish runner-up in 1964. In 1967 he moved to league competitor Färjestad BK , for whom the left shooter was on the ice until 1970. In 1970, Öst ended his active career and took over as coach of the Färjestad junior team. Three years later he became the assistant to Arne Strömberg at Färjestad. After two years as assistant coach, Öst became head coach, and he held the position of coach from 1975 to 1977. During his tenure, the team from Färjestad BK reached the finals for the Swedish championship in 1976 and 1977. Öst moved to Germany in 1977 and was coach of the Cologne EC in the German Bundesliga . The reigning German champions could not defend the title under his leadership, at the end of the 1977/78 season Cologne was third. In the following two years, Öst was on the gang at Berliner SC . The team reached a third and a fifth place in the Bundesliga with the Swede.

After a three-year stint in Germany, Öst returned to Sweden and took over the position of general manager at his former club Färjestad BK, which he held from 1980 to 1987. In addition, he was the manager of the Swedish national team in 1985/86 . During his tenure as manager Färjestad was able to win the Swedish championship twice, the team was runner-up twice more. Afterwards, Öst returned to the office of coach and in 1987 was coach of the Prussians Berlin, which had previously been promoted to the German Bundesliga . In three seasons, the team's best result under Öst's leadership was reaching the playoff quarter-finals in 1989 and 1990. As a result, the Swede was hired by league rivals Mannheimer ERC , whom he coached in the 1990/91 season. After being eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals, Öst returned to Sweden and was a coach at his former club Leksands IF , for which he had been active in the 1960s. After one season, he moved back to the managerial position, which he held from 1992 to 2000. In January 2001 Olle Öst came back to Germany when he took over the coaching position for the DEL team Hannover Scorpions . The Scorpions were able to celebrate their greatest club success to date under his leadership when they reached the playoff semi-finals in the 2000/01 season . Öst left Hanover in 2001 and became manager and sports director at Berlin Capitals , where he had already been a trainer at the previous club, Preussen Berlin. After the bankruptcy and the revocation of Berlin's license in 2002, the Swede returned to his home country and worked as a players' agent.

In January 2003, however, Olle Öst came back to Germany and took over the coaching position at ERC Ingolstadt . The Ingolstadt team managed under his leadership in the 2002/03 season, the goal set relegation. Öst then went to the Hannover Scorpions and became sports director at his former club. He held the office of sports director for the Hanoverians in the 2003/04 season , after which Öst returned to Sweden. In February 2006, the Swede came back to Germany and took over the coaching position at the second division Straubing Tigers . The team reached the play-off final with Öst, became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga and was promoted to the DEL. In honor of the greatest success in the club's history to date, a championship flag was dedicated to the coach, which was hung under the roof of the Straubing ice stadium . After a successful three-month engagement in Bavaria, Öst returned to Sweden after turning down an offer from Straubing for the following season. In the following years he worked again increasingly as a players agent. In addition, he established contacts from clubs to coaching colleagues, for example Öst played a key role in the commitment of his colleague Ulf Skoglund by the Austrian league club EV Zeltweg in 2008. In November 2009, Öst stepped in for his compatriot and took over the coaching position in Styria for the 2009/10 season, as Skoglund had a herniated disc and had to undergo surgery.
