The athletic relegated Mosquitos Essen remained in the league, since a descent of the corporation to the 2nd Bundesliga was not possible for legal reasons. The Starbulls Rosenheim sold their corporation to the second division Iserlohn Roosters before the season . Also new to the league was the champions of the 2nd Bundesliga , the Düsseldorfer EG .
