The 2000/01 season of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga was the third season of the new, second-highest German league, with twelve participants.

The ERC Ingolstadt was second division champion in 2000/01, but, like the runner-up Tölzer Löwen, renounced promotion to the German ice hockey league .

The Erding Jets were relegated to the league in terms of sport , while EC Bad Nauheim benefited from the withdrawal of the EC Wilhelmshaven-Stickhausen team and was able to participate in the 2nd Bundesliga again the following year.
