The 1993/94 season of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga was the 21st and, for the time being, last season of the second highest German ice hockey division. The Augsburg EV became the champion and thus the sporty climber , and five other second division teams also met the license requirements for the German Ice Hockey League , which was newly founded for the following season , only the EV Landsberg had waived an application and then started in the now second-class 1st League South .

SV Bayreuth and SC Memmingen had already stopped playing during the current season . After the end of the season, the ECD Sauerland Iserlohn and the EHC Essen-West also filed for bankruptcy, the successor clubs started in the third-class 2nd division north .

Due to the withdrawal of the license for the Bundesliga team of the EHC Freiburg , which had to relegate to the fourth-class regional league, the Schwenninger ERC remained in the top division despite sporting relegation, whereupon the 2nd Bundesliga began with only eleven teams.

In order to reduce the loss of income for the participating clubs due to the lack of a twelfth team, the preliminary round was now played as a triple round instead of a double round, so that each club played three home and three away games against the other teams. Then the top eight teams qualified for the promotion play-offs, while the last three teams should take part in the relegation round. However, this did not apply after only nine teams participated in the game after the preliminary round.

The winner of the final finally qualified for the Bundesliga, the loser was also promoted to the first division by winning the relegation games against the penultimate of the Bundesliga.
