The 2005/06 season of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga began on September 16, 2005 with 14 clubs and was organized by the ice hockey game operating company. New to the league were the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg , who had previously been relegated from the German Ice Hockey League , as well as the promoted EHC Munich and Dresdner Eislöwen .

Player regulations

  • All teams can use a maximum of six contingent players per game. A maximum of eight foreign players can be signed during the season.
  • According to the Ü23 rule, a maximum of 15 players who are over 23 years old or who are contingent players may be used per game (with the exception of goalkeepers). The cut-off date for this season is May 1, 1982 - so all players who were born before are considered to be over 23 players.
  • Funding license players must have played at least five games for the second division team by the end of the transfer period (31 January) in order to continue to be eligible to play in the second division.

A team was awarded three points for a win after regular time, if the game was tied after 60 minutes, both teams received one point, and the winner of the five-minute extra time or after a necessary penalty shootout was awarded an additional point. If a team lost in regular time, it received no points.

Relegation round

The last six teams in the main round competed from March 10, 2006 in the relegation round in a single round without taking the points against each other in order to play off two relegated teams in the league . The other dates for the fixtures were March 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 and 31, and April 2, 7 and 9. After that, the Tölzer Löwen and Wolves Freiburg were relegated to the top division.

ESBG All-Star Game

On February 28, 2006, the ESBG Allstar Game with players from the 2nd Bundesliga and the Oberliga took place for the first time in the Straubing ice stadium at the Pulverturm .
