The 1966/67 season of the ice hockey league was the ninth season of the league as the second-highest German ice hockey division under the Bundesliga and at the same time the first to be played on two tracks. While the champions Augsburger EV failed in the relegation round to the Bundesliga , the ice hockey department of FC Bayern Munich , SG Oberstdorf / Sonthofen and VfL Bad Nauheim qualified for the top German division. The TEV Miesbach and the EV Landsberg failed in the relegation to the upper league and rose from the second division, as did the Essen RSC , who withdrew from the game after the main round.

Attendees

Before the season, the field of participants was divided regionally into two groups. Since the teams of EC Oberstdorf and ERC Sonthofen had merged to form the Oberstdorf / Sonthofen community, the Oberliga Süd started with seven clubs. The Oberliga Nord was initially increased by the two participants in the finals of the regional league season 1965/66 who did not come from Bavaria. To determine the seventh participant, there were finally qualifying games of the third-placed in the regional league intermediate rounds 1965/66, in which the Mannheimer SC was able to prevail with a 10: 4 and an 8: 6 win against EC Hannover .
