history
At first, ice sports were practiced on frozen ponds and lakes , later they made do by sprinkling sports fields with water in winter and using them as an ice rink after freezing over. The Heiligengeistfeld was also converted in this way at that time.
In the 1930s, the HSC was one of the five clubs that made ice hockey popular. In its heyday, the HSC produced a number of German champions. For example, in speed skating, Rolf Spardel ; Bärbel Martin , Inge Paul and Eileen Zimmer stood out in the figure skating division . Christa Burmeister won the German championships in art roller skating twice.
In 1985, the Hamburg Ice Skate Club was awarded the sports plaque by the Federal President , as an award for the special services acquired over many years in the care and development of sport.
Today the association has around 150 members. About 70 of them actively train and take part in numerous national and international championships. The training takes place on the ice rink in the ramparts and in the ice rink in Farmsen .
As the highlight of the season, the HSC organizes the "Hamburger Michel" every year, an international competition in which many European neighbors show their skills in figure skating. The formation ice skating competitions are also pronounced. In April 2009 the HSC celebrated the 15th anniversary of this event. The former speed skating department is now part of Halstenbeker TS .
