For the 2nd Regional League season , the four groups South, Middle, North and West were reduced to the two groups South and North and introduced as a link to the ice hockey Oberliga qualifying rounds with teams in this league.

Attendees

Due to the short-term increase and division of the Oberliga, the Cologne EK , which had actually failed in relegation on promotion, and the Essen RSC moved into the Northern group of the Oberliga. The Mannheimer SC and EC Hannover played the other free place in the league ; Mannheim won 10: 4 and 8: 6.

The first four of the four regional groups from the previous year qualified for the regional league. The SC Frankfurt 1880 from the middle group waived, but the VERC Lauterbach moved up. In the south the EHC Klostersee waived , here the SC Garmisch-Partenkirchen moved up. Before the season, the Stuttgart ERC withdrew its team, so that the group south was only played with 4 participants.

The teams were divided into two groups. Participants were (group in brackets / ranking of the previous year):

First a single round was held in both groups. The first four of each group played with the four worst of the corresponding regional groups of the Oberliga to qualify for the Oberliga 1967/68 . In addition, the two group winners played the regional league championship .
