The Oberliga is the third highest division in German ice hockey in the 2020/21 season . It is played by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) in two regional groups, North and South. The planned start of the season is on October 16, 2020.

Due to the cancellation of the preseason, there was no promotion or relegation. The Füchse Duisburg and the Mosquitos Essen withdrew to the regional league in May 2020. Diez-Limburg, Hamm and Herford applied for the Oberliga from the Regionalliga West. 13 clubs have applied for the group north:


Oberliga Süd

Due to the termination of the preseason, there was no athletic promotion or relegation. However, insolvency proceedings were opened at the beginning of April 2020 through the gaming operating company of ERC Sonthofen , which meant that the club lost the right to start in the major league and restarted in the district league . The EHF Passau Black Hawks and HC Landsberg competed among the participants in the interlinking round with the Bayernliga. 13 clubs have applied for the group south:

The 13 teams play a single round with 24 games per team. The top ten qualified for the championship round, which is also played as a single round. The remaining teams play a dovetailing round with the best teams in the Bayernliga . The season ends with the joint play-offs with the North Group and the play-offs for qualifying for the Oberliga Süd.
