In the 2020/21 season , the regional leagues north, east, west and south-west as well as the Bayern league, which is equivalent to them, are the fourth highest league level in German ice hockey .

Regionalliga North

The Regionalliga Nord for teams from Lower Saxony , Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is managed by the State Ice Sports Association of Lower Saxony (NEV) for the so-called Northern Association , consisting of the regional associations of the federal states involved.

The eight teams play double rounds (28 games per team). The first four teams qualify for the play-offs. The master qualifies for the league in terms of sport.

Regional League East

The Regionalliga Ost includes teams from the federal states of Berlin , Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . The organizer is the Saxon Ice Sports Association . The season begins at the end of September and ends on March 28, 2021 at the latest.

The ESV Hall 1b had not participated in the final round of the Cup the previous season and was relegated athletic. As a new team, the ES Weisswasser has registered with the Lausitzer Füchse ( DEL2 ) junior team. ECC Preussen Berlin had initiated insolvency proceedings and dissolved in July 2020.

The teams first play a single round (14 games per team). The first five teams qualify for the upper intermediate round, the remaining teams play the lower intermediate round. The first four of the upper intermediate round play play-offs, which are played in the best-of-five mode. The master qualifies for the league. The teams in places 5 to 8 play a cup round.

Regionalliga West

The regional league west is hosted by the North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Hockey Association (EHV-NRW). In addition to NRW , teams from Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate can also take part in RL West .

Due to the small number of teams, the regional league was merged with the previous state league NRW. The twelve teams play in two groups.

A single round is played in both groups (10 games). The best four in each group qualify for the main round, which is also played as a single round (14 games). The placements decide the setting for the play-offs. The master qualifies for the Oberliga Nord. The remaining teams in places 5 and 6 of the preliminary round play in a double round for the NRW-Regio-Pokal (12 games).

Regional league south / west

The Regionalliga Süd-West covers the area of ​​the federal state of Baden-Württemberg . The host is the Ice Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg . The EHC Zweibrücken from Rhineland-Palatinate traditionally also takes part in the league.

Bayern League

The Bavarian Ice Hockey League is organized by the Bavarian Ice Sports Association .

Attendees

The preseason was canceled without athletic promoters and relegators being played off. The Bavarian Ice Sports Association stated that the demolition should not result in a disadvantage for any club. Therefore, upon request, all four semi-finalists of the 2020 Landesliga promotion round were accepted into the Bayernliga. The league club ERC Sonthofen would have been allowed to start in the Bayernliga after the bankruptcy of its game operating company, but waived and starts again in the district league . The EC Bad Kissinger Wölfe , on the other hand, had already withdrawn from the current Bayern league season on November 22, 2019. The EHF Passau and HC Landsberg have applied for the Oberliga Süd.
