In the 2020/21 season , the regional leagues north, east, west and south-west as well as the Bayern league, which is equivalent to them, are the fourth highest league level in German ice hockey .

Regionalliga North

The Regionalliga Nord for teams from Lower Saxony , Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is managed by the State Ice Sports Association of Lower Saxony (NEV) for the so-called Northern Association , consisting of the regional associations of the federal states involved.

Regional League East

A single round is played in both groups (10 games). The best four in each group qualify for the main round, which is also played as a single round (14 games). The placements decide the setting for the play-offs. The master qualifies for the Oberliga Nord. The remaining teams in places 5 and 6 of the preliminary round play in a double round for the NRW-Regio-Pokal (12 games).

Regional league south / west

The Regionalliga Süd-West covers the area of ​​the federal state of Baden-Württemberg . The host is the Ice Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg . The EHC Zweibrücken from Rhineland-Palatinate traditionally also takes part in the league.

The preseason was canceled without athletic promoters and relegators being played off. The Bavarian Ice Sports Association stated that the demolition should not result in a disadvantage for any club. Therefore, upon request, all four semi-finalists of the 2020 Landesliga promotion round were accepted into the Bayernliga. The league club ERC Sonthofen would have been allowed to start in the Bayernliga after the bankruptcy of its game operating company, but waived and starts again in the district league .
