In the 2015/16 season, the Regionalliga is the fourth-highest league level in German ice hockey below the top ice hockey league . The regional leagues north, east and south-west are played as well as the Bayern league and the 1st league west.

Regionalliga North

The Regionalliga Nord is organized by the Lower Saxony State Ice Sports Association for teams from the federal states of Lower Saxony , Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

A preliminary round was played in two regional groups from October 2015 to January 2016. The first three teams in each group qualified for the championship round. The winner of this round is the champion of the Regionalliga Nord and should take part in the relegation to the ice hockey major league 2016/17 , but all teams have waived this.

The remaining teams in the regional groups play a placement round.

The Weserstars Bremen have secured the championship title of the Regionalliga Nord for the second time in a row. However , they do without promotion to the ice hockey league . Due to the relegation of the Hamburger SV team from the ice hockey league 2015/16 , the second substitute will move into the fifth division.

Placement round

The teams in places four and five in group A, as well as four to seven in group B, play the following placements in a single round. On February 29, 2016, the EHC Timmendorfer Strand 06 1b team was excluded from the competition due to two non-appearances.

The planning for the new season provides for the introduction of a new fifth class association league in order to increase the management level of the Regionalliga-Nord. According to the current status, all teams of the championship round and the relegated from the ice hockey major league 2015/16 will participate in the ice hockey regional league . All participants in the placement round would form the association league with the promoters.

1st League West

The 1st League West covers the area of ​​the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The organizer is the State Ice Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia. The teams from Hamm, Ratingen and Neuss, who decided not to take part in the Oberliga Nord now run by the DEB, are new to the league previously known as Regionalliga West .

After a single round of all teams, the league is split up. The teams in places one to six play in a double round with subsequent play-offs, the best 4 teams, the 1st League West champions. This could have taken part in the relegation to the Oberliga Nord , but all teams have waived. The teams in places seven to ten play against the teams in places one to four of the - fifth-class - Regionalliga West the 1st League West Cup as a single round.

The Herford EV and the ESC Paderborn have qualified for the ice hockey regional league and TuS Wiehl and the Kölner Haie 1b can celebrate their relegation. Regional League East

Championship series

As of March 8, 2016, the league management of Regionalliga Ost decided to replace the planned playoffs with a championship round (single round). The following are eligible to participate: Tornado Niesky , EHC Berlin Blues and ESC Dresden 1b. The Chemnitz Crashers were excluded from the association because they did not have a suitable venue for the period of the games. On March 11, 2016, this championship round was canceled again by the SEV, as the EHC Berlin Blues also refrain from participating, and is to be played through a final - between Tornado Niesky and ESC Dresden 1b in the best-of-five mode.

Regionalliga South-West

The Regionalliga Süd-West covered the area of ​​the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The organizer was the Ice Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg . Traditionally, the EHC Zweibrücken from Rhineland-Palatinate also took part in the league. The first four teams after the main round (single semicircle) played out the champions in the playoffs. He could have played against the champions of the Bayernliga for promotion to the Oberliga Süd , but both finalists waived.

Bayern League

The Bavarian Ice Hockey League is organized by the Bavarian Ice Sports Association according to its implementation regulations.

As in previous years, the league plays a single round. The first ten teams qualify for the subsequent intermediate round, which then play off the participants in the play-offs in two groups. The best four teams in each of the two intermediate round groups (A&B) are qualified for the playoffs. The playoffs are played in each round in the "best-of-five" mode. The winner is champion of the Bayern League and competes against the winner of the Regionalliga-Südwest in the relegation to promotion to the ice hockey Oberliga 2016/17 . The teams in places 11-14 play a relegation round. After a double round, the last player is relegated and the penultimate competes in the relegation to stay in class against the winner of the Bavarian State League.
