history

The first thoughts about founding a club were made in autumn 2011. The official founding took place in spring 2012, when dedicated ice sports fans set the goal of filling the ice rink with life again. In order to get closer to this goal, a fundraising campaign was launched, in which over 130,000 euros were collected from the population, associations and regional and national companies. Thanks to further grants from the city, district and state, the renovation of the hall began in August 2012.

Sporting development

At the request of the association, it was decided at the league conference in 2012 that the EC Lauterbach should be divided into fifth class, the Hessen League of the Hessian Ice Sports Association (HEV). The league structure in German ice hockey goes from the DEL (highest class) to DEL2, Oberliga, Regionalliga, in the case of the Hessenliga up to the sixth class of the Landesliga. There they became champions in 2013 and secured promotion to the Regionalliga West (formerly NRW). They also won the cup in 2013.

The 2013/14 season they played fourth class for the first time and finished the main round in 5th place. In the subsequent regional league cup they won the final against the Eisadler Dortmund and were thus cup winners.

For the 2013/14 season, a U10 and a U8 team had been reported for play in the Hessenliga B round. You play under the umbrella of the EC Lauterbach as a team of young lynxes .

The 2014/15 season was again played in the Regionalliga West. They took second place in the table after the preliminary round and took part in the play-offs to qualify for participation in the Oberliga West.

Before the 2015/16 season, the head coach position was filled with Arno Lörsch, an experienced senior division coach (previously EHC Neuwied ). The team is registered in the regional association of North Rhine-Westphalia for the Regionalliga West. The LV NRW, however, has decided on the designation 1st League West for the 2015/16 season.

In autumn 2015, the new ice hockey association North Rhine-Westphalia was founded and took over the organization of the Regionalliga West for the 2016/17 season, which has been called that again since then. The EC Lauterbach participates in the fourth highest division for the fifth time in a row. In the junior area, five teams are now for the first time taking part in the HEV games and in the junior, boys and school areas also in the EHV NRW games.

Although they had qualified for the 2019/20 Regional League season, the men's team had to make its way to the Hessenliga due to the lack of funding.

Ice rink

The ice rink in Lauterbach has a long tradition and was built in 1972. In the years before, since 1963, the VERC Lauterbach association received the pond in Steinigsgrund from the city. The area of the pond in Steinigsgrund was converted into a natural ice stadium in 1963. After planning for an artificial ice stadium began in 1964, implementation dragged on until 1970, when construction work finally began in August. In 1989 the ice rink was roofed over. During the 2008/09 season the stadium was closed after an inspection due to damage to the roof structure. After it was clear that the operator, the city, did not attach any importance to the continuation of the ice rink, the first thoughts on maintaining / reopening the hall were cherished in early 2011. In autumn 2012, after the necessary renovation work had been completed by EC Lauterbach , which was founded at the beginning of 2012 and was supposed to take over the stadium from the Lauterbach public utility, the stadium should start operating again. On November 13, 2012, the hall was reopened after several years of vacancy. The official opening of the EisArena took place on September 28, 2013.
