The North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Hockey Association (EHV-NRW) is the umbrella organization for ice hockey clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia . He is a member of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (LSB NRW) and one of the 15 state associations of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). It is the only state association in Germany exclusively for ice hockey, all other state associations represent the entire ice sport of a country, including roller sports in some cases .

history

The founding of the EHV NRW was preceded by the dissatisfaction of the ice hockey clubs in NRW with the state ice sports association North Rhine-Westphalia (LEV NRW) under its president Wolfgang Sorge . This led to open disputes between the LEV NRW on the one hand and the NRW ice hockey clubs and the DEB on the other. Among other things, the LEV NRW wanted to block all teams of the three clubs that had regularly applied for the Oberliga Nord , which was newly founded by the DEB - the block was later rejected by the DEB arbitration court. The undemocratic structures within the LEV NRW and the external determination of the ice hockey clubs by the other ice sports clubs were also criticized.

The association was founded on October 21, 2015. Admission to the DEB followed on December 2, 2015, and to the LSB NRW on February 1, 2016. At the beginning of February the LEV NRW was excluded from the DEB, but resumed in May 2016 at the suggestion of the Permanent Arbitration Court of the DEB.
