Curling in Germany

The first men's championships were held in 1966, the women's first in 1975. German curlers achieved their first international success at the men's European championship in Oslo in 1977 and at the women's European championship in Copenhagen in 1980 , each with a bronze medal. Then followed gold at the 1984 European Championships in Morzine. A year later, the men's team also succeeded in this at the European Championships in Grindelwald . The women of the DCV won their first Olympic gold at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . At that time, curling was still a demonstration sport , in the same year the World Curling Federation was recognized by the IOC as a winter sports federation. Curling was finally officially included in the Olympic program in 1998.
