The German Motor Yacht Association e. V. ( DMYV ) is the German umbrella organization for motor boating . The DMYV is based in Duisburg . The DMYV represents 550 clubs in Germany. For motorboat drivers who do not want to be active in any local association, there is the Sportbootvereinigung (SBV), which currently has a little more than 5400 members.

Together with the DSV , the DMYV is entrusted by the Federal Ministry of Transport with the acceptance of the official sports boat license . The DMYV is a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

history

The DMYV was founded on September 11, 1907 in Berlin . The first president was “Se. Your Highness “Victor Duke of Ratibor. Chairman was Privy Councilor Professor Dr. hc C. Busley, who also sat on the Presidium of the UIM's predecessor association . In the early days, members of the association were many automobile clubs, such as the Kaiserliche Automobil-Club Berlin, the Bavarian, the Saxon and the Magdeburg automobile clubs. Two years later, 233 motor yachts were registered in the association register. No. 1 on this list was the steam yacht “Alexandria”, owner “Se. Maj. “ Kaiser Wilhelm II. On the 25th anniversary in 1932 there were 17 member associations with around 2000 members. In 1930, after an international regatta on Lake Templin, there were insurmountable differences between the DMYV and the ADAC, which led to the withdrawal of the Auto Mobilclub. However, due to political developments, he rejoined. The war and the post-war period also left their traces in the area of recreational shipping. The first event after the war took place in Berlin in 1950. 80 boats took part in a small race.

Racing

The DMYV has sport sovereignty in the field of motorboat racing and represents German interests at the UIM world umbrella organization. The comparable association in the GDR was the ADMV , which not only represented water sports but also other motor sports.

The races in Germany are organized by member associations of the DMYV. They are approved by the DMYV and, if they are advertised internationally, registered with the UIM.

The DMYV defines the criteria (e.g. minimum age) and issues the licenses for racing boat drivers . With a license from DMYV, German racing boat drivers have won the following international titles (1950–2009):

  • 046 world championships
  • 118 European Championships

In addition, 262 German championship titles were awarded during this time.

The most successful international driver is the Berlin engine builder Dieter König (†), who won twelve titles in 14 racing years (three world and nine European championships). The most successful drivers in Germany with twelve German championship titles each are:
