The German Volleyball Association e. V. ( DVV ) is the top organization of volleyball in the Federal Republic of Germany. The tasks include looking after the German national teams , organizing the DVV Cup , promoting volleyball in Germany and presenting it in the media. The DVV is a member of the International Volleyball Association (FIVB), the European Volleyball Association (CEV) and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The DVV organizes and promotes volleyball , beach volleyball and snow volleyball in Germany. This includes top-class sport as well as popular and recreational sport. The association ensures that the competitions run properly in its area of ​​responsibility and sanctions violations of its members against statutes and regulations. This also includes the fight against doping .

As a member of the DVV, the German Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) is responsible for the implementation of the first and second Bundesliga . The German champions are determined in the first leagues for men and women . As the second national competition, the association is holding the DVV-Pokal as a national cup competition. Seventeen regional associations are responsible for the divisions below the second division.

In addition to the European Cup participants, the German national teams for men and women represent the DVV internationally. The association organizes the international matches and acts as the host for home matches. The DVV represents the interests of German volleyball players vis-à-vis the international associations FIVB and CEV and at the DOSB .

In addition to indoor volleyball, the DVV is also responsible for beach volleyball. The association takes care of the interests of the players and coaches. He also conducts international tournaments in Germany and the annual German championship .

structure

The highest body of the DVV is the board of directors, headed by President René Hecht . Other members are Vice President Thomas Petigk, Bundesliga representative Michael Evers and Secretary General Nicole Fetting . The further work is organized in eight committees, which are chaired by members of the Presidium. In addition to the VBL, the DVV also has seventeen regional associations, with Baden-Württemberg being divided into three regional associations and Bremen / Lower Saxony merging to form the Northwest German Volleyball Association on January 1, 2016. The tasks and rules of the DVV are regulated in the statutes and various regulations, including several game regulations for the various competitions. Legal questions within German volleyball are clarified by the association court. The DVV also founded Deutsche Volleyball Sport GmbH for marketing purposes.

Committees

With the Anti-Doping Committee, the DVV, as a member of the DOSB , undertakes to prohibit doping , sanction the use of such substances and take preventive action. He works with NADA to do this . In addition to the chairman Erhard Rubert, three anti-doping officers belong to this committee.

The Beach Volleyball Committee regulates the tournaments of the German championship , the Masters and Cup series as well as international beach volleyball events in Germany. He also takes special care of the national beach volleyball teams. The chairman is Matthias Piehler, the players are represented by Victoria Bieneck and Paul Becker .

The Federal Committee for Sport Development takes care of all players who do not play volleyball or beach volleyball at a professional level. He supports recreational tournaments and other events for amateur players.

The youth committee, chaired by Andreas Burkard, promotes the next generation of German volleyball players and organizes competitions for young players.

In addition to the conference of the state teaching staff, the teaching committee is responsible for teaching and implementing the teaching regulations. This includes the training of the trainers with subsequent examination and licensing in cooperation with the trainer academy. In addition, the teaching committee headed by Ralph Bösling publishes materials for training and further education.

The material testing committee examines items that are offered by various manufacturers for volleyball and awards various test marks if the quality is appropriate. The chairman is Thomas Petigk.

The Federal Referees Committee coordinates the referees in the national indoor and beach volleyball competitions. By training the referees and communicating the current rules of the game, the committee headed by André Junge ensures that the competitions run smoothly.

The federal gaming committee implements the provisions of the federal gaming regulations. Among other things, this regulates the admission of clubs and players to the competitions and the course of these competitions. The committee consists of the chairman Gerald Kessing as well as representatives of the league, the national associations and the referees.

history

The German Volleyball Association was founded in Kassel in 1955 by the first President Johannes Zeigert (later Honorary President). In 1956, the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic took part in a world championship with the women's and men's national teams. On December 9, 1990, the merger with the German Volleyball Association of the GDR (DSVB) followed in West Berlin. The headquarters of the organization is now in Frankfurt am Main .

In 1982 there were 3699 associations and 291,618 members in the DVV. The numbers rose continuously until the end of the 1990s and during this time they reached their peak with more than 5,400 clubs and around 530,000 members. In 2019, the DVV comprised 6693 associations and 405,461 members.

German Volleyball Foundation

The DVV founded the German Volleyball Foundation (SDV) to promote the sport nationally . The board of trustees of the foundation consists of persons from the sport, the economy and other areas of public life. Representatives of the DVV, the regional associations and the board of trustees form the board. The foundation sees its tasks as supporting top and young athletes, providing materials for teaching and public relations, maintaining international relationships and sports medicine projects. The foundation is based in Oberschleißheim .
