Technician Beach Tour
The Techniker Beach Tour is the highest-ranking and, since 2006, only national tournament series of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) in beach volleyball . Until summer 2017 it was called Smart Beach Tour because of the main sponsor at the time . The final of the German championship has been held in Timmendorfer Strand since 1993 , where the Ahmann-Hager-Arena at the pier has been set up every year since 2003 to hold the tournament .
procedure
Venues 2019 |
The tournament series, which is held annually from June to August, consists of eight tournaments, some of which take place in central squares in large cities and some on the beaches of the North Sea and Baltic Sea . Each tournament takes place on a weekend from Friday to Sunday.
In the 2019 Tour, there will be sixteen teams per tournament for men and women. These qualify with a high number of points in the DVV ranking list or receive a wildcard . There are four groups of four in the main field. In each group, two teams play against each other, then the respective winners and losers meet. The group winners qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while the second and third determine further participants in a round of 16. From the round of 16, the game is played in a simple knockout system up to the final. This is followed by the award ceremony of the three best women and men teams on the center court.
Participation is equally possible for German and foreign teams. The latter, as well as junior teams, can receive a wildcard. The tournaments are played on three to four playing fields. Entry to the games in the tournament series is free. Seat reservations can be made for a fee.
Media and Marketing
In 2018 the tournament series was organized for the first time by the DVV and its marketing agency DVS.
Since the Techniker Beach Tour 2018, the games have been shown on the center court in a free live stream on the Internet. In addition, some tournaments are broadcast on free TV on the ProSieben Maxx broadcaster .

Masters - Supercup |
history
The first national tournament series in German beach volleyball took place in 1992, four years before the sport's Olympic premiere. The first German championship was held in Damp that same year . In 1993 Frank Mackerodt and his agency MNP took over the organization and set up a Masters series. Participation in a tournament in Los Angeles had piqued his interest. Timmendorfer Strand became the venue for the German championship and has remained so to this day. Jörg Ahmann and Axel Hager won the title there and, with their bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games, sparked increased interest in Germany. Since 2003 the venue in Timmendorfer Strand has been called the Ahmann-Hager-Arena . In the years around the turn of the millennium, the largest prize money was paid, between 300,000 and 400,000 euros. At the time, the German tournament series was one of the largest events of its kind alongside the FIVB World Tour and the American AVP Tour.
In 2003, however, Mackerodt had to file for bankruptcy and the tour was redesigned with Renault as the new main sponsor. Three years later, the Smart Beach Tour began. The Masters were abolished. Instead, some of the tournaments were held as Supercups from 2008 to 2017. After a legal dispute over TV and marketing rights, the DVV and the Munich agency sportsandevents , which had organized the German beach volleyball tour for over ten years , parted ways in December 2012 . The tournament series was reorganized for the 2018 season.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany , the Techniker Beach Tour has been canceled for 2020. The “ Comdirect Beach Tour” will be held as an alternative . It is a shortened tournament series to qualify and prepare for the German Championship 2020 .
