map

Damp is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . It is located on the Schwansen peninsula on the Baltic Sea .

Geography and traffic

Former Vogelsang-Grünholz station

Damp is located about 16 kilometers northeast of Eckernförde on the Baltic Sea coast. The Schwansenstraße (B 203) runs to the west from Eckernförde to Kappeln. The municipality includes the village Vogelsang-Grünholz ( Danish : Fuglsang-Grønholt ), as well as the villages Dorotheenthal, Fischleger ( Damp Fiskerleje ), Hegenholz ( Hegeholt ), Nieby ( Nyby ), Pommerby, Schwastrum ( Svartstrøm ), the Damp estate and the direct Ostseebad Damp on the coast . The holiday center, which opened in 1973, is connected to Schwansenstraße via the K 61 district road, which is also being built.

From January 26, 1889 to the summer of 1958, there was a station on the narrow-gauge Eckernförde – Kappeln railway in the Vogelsang district .

history

The community emerged in 1927 from the manor district of the same name. The Rote Maaß , an old cult site with a stone circle , was found in the municipality in 1964 .

Good steam

Gut Damp is located between Vogelsang-Grünholz and the Ostseebad Damp almost directly on the K 61 in Hegenholz. Its lands belonged to the Schleswig bishops in the 15th century . The first tenant mentioned in the sources was an Eler Schmidt in 1438. He was obliged to clear the forest and build a house in which he could accommodate episcopal hunting guests. The name Damp first appears in a sales deed from 1517.

Today's manor house was built between 1595 and 1597 as a two-story central building with four corner towers and was changed during the construction period; An extension was added at the beginning of the 18th century. The mansion, built on an artificial island, has a ten-meter-high entrance hall in which a double flight of stairs leads to a surrounding gallery. A mighty organ from 1699 is accessible from here opposite the stairs. The Renaissance building has been inhabited by the Reventlow family since the end of the 19th century . The mansion is decorated with stucco work rich in figures from around 1700.

In 1640 Otto Rantzau built a barn and a large cow house, perhaps also the gatehouse, and from 1721 to 1723 the other half-timbered barns under the Ahlefeldts. A restaurant of the same name is operated in the Kuhhaus today. The manor and manor house were often used as a film set, for example for parts of the ARD series Onkel Bräsig . It was sometimes seen in the ZDF series Der Landarzt . There was an art shop in the gatehouse. The original baroque garden was transformed into a landscape garden at the beginning of the 19th century.

Ostseebad Damp

On December 5, 1968, the municipality decided to plan a holiday center under the futuristic name of Damp 2000 . In the mid-1980s it was renamed Ostseebad Damp . In 2011 there was another name change to Ostsee Resort Damp ( proper spelling : ostsee resort damp ).

During the construction phase, the original concept of a purely tourist use of all houses was expanded to include a comprehensive clinical part. The Ostseeklinik Damp (1974) and the Kurklinik, later the rehab clinic (1974/1975) were created. The training institute for physical therapy and sports medicine (1982) and the state-recognized nursing school (1983) were added as training centers.

In 1990 the Aqua Tropicana was opened, a tropical seawater swimming pool with a sauna area and wellness offers. In 1997 a fun & sport center was added. In Damp there is a marina with 14 jetties and 365 boat berths. In 2012 the Aqua Tropicana was closed. A new adventure pool ( discovery pool ) was opened in July 2014.
