The 9.5 / 10.1 meter class is a class of lifeboats (SRB) of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). Since 1999, 32 boats have been completed at different shipyards, one is currently being built.

properties

Based on the experiences of the previous classes of lifeboats, the DGzRS provided these ships with numerous improvements and further developments. The hull of the proven Netzspantenbauweise in seawater resistant aluminum was built is running in a delta shape. This means that the widest part of the ship is at the stern , which above all leads to greater stability when sailing offshore. The ship is built as a self-righting device. The newer boats in the class are two frames longer. A larger salvage port on the starboard side also enables the shipwrecked to be picked up directly at the waterline without having to straighten them. The ship is controlled from a closed control station. A second control station in the ship was dispensed with, so that more space was created for rescued or cared for. The larger cockpit and the advanced mast also make it easier to drop people off in a helicopter. A circumferential fender system makes it possible to walk alongside other ships even in heavy seas. The boats in this class are designed for rescue operations in all weather and sea conditions.

The lifeboats are driven by a diesel engine with 320 or 380 hp that acts on a fixed propeller . The ship reaches a speed of approx. 18 knots, the range is up to 260 nautical miles.

The equipment includes a tow hook, searchlights, mobile bilge pumps , medical and technical equipment as well as the latest radio and navigation technology .

The rescue boats of this class are manned at short notice by volunteers of the DGzRS and are used in the North and Baltic Seas.

Special features of individual boats

The rescue boats Paul Neisse , Kurt Hoffmann and all following are 10.1 m long, two frames longer than the other boats in the class.

The Henrich Wuppesahl was baptized for the 150th anniversary of the GMRS at the Bremen marketplace. With 380 hp, she has a more powerful diesel engine than the previous boats in the class. The following ships also have or are getting this increased motorization.

The Walter Rose originally served from 2003 to 2012 as the daughter boat Verena of the rescue cruiser Hermann Marwede . After it got a new daughter boat, it was completely overhauled and is now used as an independent sea rescue boat. Since March 2019 she has been used as a training boat at the SAR School Neustadt i. H. used.

The Werner Kuntze was the first ship to be christened inland. It drove from Dortmund to the coast on its own.

The name of Nausicaa comes from Greek mythology. This was also carried by the family's sailing yachts, which had donated a considerable amount for the construction of this boat.

Nimanoa is a legendary figure in Micronesian mythology who always allows travelers to safely navigate to their destination at sea. This is the name of a couple's sailing yacht who made the construction of the boat possible with their estate.

The Mervi was about half of a donation of 525,000 euros to the German TV lottery funded. This boat is an education and training boat that was built for the SAR school in Neustadt. It has 2 control stands, 2 radar devices and the upper control stand can be completely darkened with blinds.

The Gerhard Elsner was on January 19, 2019 the 50th exhibition boot Dusseldorf baptized.
