The Fassmer shipyard in Berne -Motzen in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony is an international family-owned shipbuilding company. When it comes to the design and production of lifeboats , Fassmer is one of the world's leading providers.

history

The company was founded in 1850. That year, the boat builder Johannes Fassmer in Bardenfleth began building wooden boats for the farmers, shipowners and fishermen in the area. His son, the boat builder Friedrich Fassmer, expanded the company in 1910 and started manufacturing wooden sports boats. Hans Fassmer took over the business in 1920 after the death of his father and in addition to the previous boat building program, dinghies were also built for the navy. The first steel boats were built in 1938, the first light metal boats in 1948 and the first plastic boats in 1958. A lifeboat with a Porsche engine for a lightship was built in 1956.

Friedrich and Heinz Fassmer joined the company in 1960 and in 1961 a new shipyard was built in Motzen , north of the Weser ferry Motzen– Blumenthal . Five years later, the entire company was relocated to Motzen. In 1973 Fassmer began building high roofs made of glass fiber reinforced plastic. The construction of heavy-duty ferries and fire- fighting boats began in 1974, followed by a wide range of work and lifeboats for various clients. The boats and ships became larger and more demanding, and research was also carried out, such as carrying out fire tests on closed tank rescue boats.

Holger Faßmer and Harald Faßmer joined the company in 1985 and 1992 respectively. Closed lifeboats and larger tender boats for cruise ships became an important pillar of the shipyard, but fishing ships, customs cruisers and police boats also emerged in the years to come. The company Markos and Fassmer formed a cooperation in 1992 that continues to this day. In 1995 Fassmer started building spinner and nacelle cladding for the wind power industry. The subsidiary Fassmer Schiffsservice GmbH was founded in 1996 in Rechlin .

In 2008 Fassmer formed a cooperation with Marland Bootsservice in China.

In 2012, the Fassmer shipyard took over the site of the former Schweers ship and boat yard in Bardenfleth and now has two locations in Berne.

With the seaside resort ship Helgoland , Fassmer built the first new building in Germany to be powered by liquid gas.

Boats and davits

The Fassmer company is one of the world market leaders in the design and manufacture of rescue, rescue and tender boats. Fassmer produces boats and tenders for passenger ships, such as ferries and cruise ships, as well as for yachts. The company also builds special boats for the navy and other authorities.

Plant construction

In the field of plant construction, the company deals with the design and manufacture of technical ship components and systems such as landing stairs, gangways , boarding systems for yachts, cranes and other special equipment components for the shipbuilding industry.

Wind power

An additional mainstay of the shipyard is the manufacture and assembly of spinner and nacelle cladding through to complete systems for wind turbines. Since these systems are often located in offshore areas, high corrosion resistance and low weight are required. That is why fiber composite materials and seawater-resistant aluminum are mainly used. Fassmer also produces helicopter platforms, wind lifts, emergency cabins and access systems for the offshore sector.

Fiber composite technology

Fassmer produces fiberglass-reinforced plastic components for the automotive, caravan, construction machinery and rail vehicle industries as well as for the entertainment and leisure sector.
