The Hermann Marwede is the only sea rescue cruiser (SK) of the 46 m class of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). The new building for Hermann Marwede was an essential part of the program with which the DGzRS was preparing for the 21st century. She is considered the largest rescue cruiser in the world.
The ship was in 2003 by the Fassmer - shipyard in Berne built / Motzen (Weser). Aluship Gdańsk manufactured the hull in Danzig . The DGzRS internal designation is SK 29. The callsign is DBAR.
The daughter boat Verena (DGzRS internal designation TB 32), built by the Lürssen shipyard in Bardenfleth , basically corresponded to the lifeboats of the 9.5 m class . It was replaced in autumn 2012 by a rigid inflatable boat with the same name (internal designation TB 36), using the same type as on the Harro Koebke . The first daughter boat is used under the name Walter Rose as an independent sea rescue boat at the Schilksee station.
Naming
The ship was christened on June 27, 2003 on the grounds of the Fassmer shipyard in Berne / Motzen in honor of Hermann Marwede , the long-time partner of the Beck brewery and sponsor of the DGzRS . The godmother was the granddaughter of the namesake, Vera Kaiser. The daughter boat received the first name of the daughter Marwedes, Verena. Godmother was the great-granddaughter, Charlotte-Sophie Grobien. The abbreviation "SAR" attached to the bow stands for Search and Rescue .
deployment
The Hermann Marwede has been stationed on the island of Helgoland since July 2003 . She replaced Wilhelm Kaisen there, which was relocated to Sassnitz on Rügen.
At Pentecost 2005, the rescue cruiser visited the city of London on the occasion of a conference of the Maritime Safety Committee .
