The 8.9 meter class of the DGzRS is a series of rescue boats from the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People . In July 2020, three boats of this class were in service with the German rescue teams.

properties

The hull of the Rigid Buoyant Boats (RBB) is composed of welded-together plates made of polyethylene ( HDPE H igh D ensity P oly e thylene) is produced whereby a very robust hull. The boats are designed as a semi-self- righting device, in which self-righting takes place with manual deployment of an airbag (capsize bag). It is propelled by two outboard motors with 200 HP each. A half-open cabin protects the crew and rescued persons from spray and precipitation.

Due to the shallow draft (at least 65 cm), the boats are particularly suitable for use in the shallow water and reed areas of the fjord and lagoon . Mainly water sports enthusiasts and anglers get into distress here . Due to the high speed of up to 38  knots with a very small stern lake, they can provide help particularly quickly in the narrow fairways. They are manned by three to four volunteer rescue men in the event of an emergency and are designed for quick but short missions.

The rescue equipment of the boats includes material for medical first aid including grinding basket stretcher , means for fire and leak control as well as a device for towing smaller watercraft. In addition to a radar, the navigation equipment includes all modern and conventional systems.

The first boat was tested from February 2018 as a replacement for the Bodden boat " Wuppertal " at the Maasholm station and in July 2018 was named a sponsor of the DGzRS. It is the second boat with that name.

The second boat was stationed in Breege on Rügen in 2019 and named Manfred Hessdörfer , who was also a sponsor of the DGzRS, in September 2019 . It replaced the SRB Dornbusch there , which was decommissioned.

With the SRB 81, the third boat in this class was completed by the shipyard in May 2020. It was given the typical bright red color in June 2020 in the DGzRS shipyard. It reached the Ueckermünde deployment station on July 5, 2020. It was baptized on August 29, 2020 in Ueckermünde in the name of Eva Ahrens-Thies , who donated her estate to the sea rescuers. The boat replaces the stolen lifeboat Dora .
