The Hanse Explorer is a ship initially designed for the training of seafarers , which was built by the Fassmer shipyard in Berne for the Bremen- based shipping group Harren & Partner .
history
The yacht-like ship was built under the hull number 04-1-2020. The keel was laid on October 20, 2005, the launch on February 20, 2006. The ship was completed on September 22, 2006.
Conception
In addition to training seafarers, the ship is also used for top-class cruises . The owner of the ship is Hanse Explorer GmbH & Co. KG , which belongs to Harren & Partner .
The Hanse Explorer is driven by six crew members . There is space on board for the training of twelve prospective seafarers. Not only ship mechanics and nautical and technical officer candidates are trained , but also cooks and stewards . For nautical training, the ship has a bridge , the technical equipment of which corresponds to that of a modern cargo ship . An extra large galley was built in to train the kitchen staff .
For use for cruises, there is space on board in six cabins for a total of twelve passengers. A salon with a bar, a sauna and a fitness room have been built in for comfort. Leisure activities such as cinema and theater, as can be found on classic cruise ships, are lacking, however. In return, the passengers experience everyday life on board up close.
technology
The Hanse Explorer is powered by an eight - cylinder four - stroke diesel engine from Caterpillar with an output of 1360 kW , which acts on a controllable pitch propeller . The ship can reach speeds of up to 13 knots . To improve the maneuverability, the ship has a bow thruster with an output of 300 kW. The ship is ice-reinforced ( ice class E3) for cruises in icy waters .
A total of three generators from Caterpillar are available for power generation, two of which are designed as auxiliary diesels and the third as emergency diesels. The output of the generators is 215 kW each, the electrical output 250 kVA . In addition, the ship has a wave generator with an electrical output of 600 kVA.
Naming
A preliminary injunction obtained by Hapag-Lloyd at the end of 2006 prohibited Harren & Partner from using the name Hanseatic Explorer ; the ship was then renamed the Hanse Explorer .
