Casper Otten (* before 1891, † after 1923) was a German seaman.

Life

Between 1891 and 1923, Otten was the foreman of the rescue station on the North Sea island of Langeoog . During this time he and his crew were able to save a total of 94 people from distress at sea. During the same period he also worked as a lifeguard on the island.

Appreciation and awards

The Vormann-Otten-Weg on Langeoog is named in his honor. In addition, Casper Otten , a sea ​​rescue boat of the German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS), bears his name. During his lifetime he was awarded the silver Prince Heinrich Medal in 1919 for rescuing seven survivors of the stranded Finnish barque "Paul" .
