The 71st Tour of Portugal was a cycling stage race that took place from August 5th to 18th, 2009. It was held in a prologue and ten stages over a distance of 1,601 kilometers. The race is part of the UCI Europe Tour 2009 .

doping

After the tour ended, it became known that Héctor Guerra , Nuno Ribeiro and Isidro Nozal (all Liberty Seguros ) had tested positive for the doping agent CERA before the tour started. After the B-samples were positive, Nuno Ribeiro was deprived of the overall victory, the mountain classification and the victory on the 9th stage. As the overall winner, David Blanco moved up, who was also awarded the victory on the 9th stage and in the final individual time trial (which Hector Guerra won). Due to the doping cases, Liberty Seguros withdrew with immediate effect.
