Heiko Gauert

Heiko Gauert (born April 20, 1949 in Eckernförde ) is a German journalist, author and educator. His main field of activity is the Low German language, for which he is also extensively active as a language politician.

Life

As a journalist, Gauert works primarily for the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper publisher , including the weekly column Aktuell op Platt , and the North German broadcasting company , z. B. for the series Listen to prayers to . As an author, he has published the Low German books Amor an de Diek and Sünnschien un Wulken and the educational publication Kinder, Werbung und Konsum .

Up until 2012 he had given over 350 lectures all over northern Germany, mainly in Schleswig-Holstein, mostly in and about Low German. Among them were around 300 appearances with his program Op Plattdüütsch heet dat Moin up to 2012 . In the lecture, which is unique in Northern Germany, he reports on the history and meaning of the Low German language in a popular science manner and gives numerous thoughtful and humorous text examples.

Gauert is a member of the Federal Council for Low German as well as the Low German Council of the State of Schleswig-Holstein , the Advisory Board for Low German in the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament and the Committee for Low German and Frisian at the Schleswig-Holstein Homeland Association . He is particularly committed to teaching Low German language skills in state educational institutions.

Heiko Gauert lived in Silzen and ran the Wilhelm Käber Community School in Hohenlockstedt . He retired in 2014. Since then, Gauert has lived in Damp and as "Baas" runs the "Plattdüütsch Gill Eckernför Johann Hinrich Fehrs".
