Luhnstedt is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Margaretental, Spök and Luhnstedter Vie are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Luhnstedt is located in the Aukrug Nature Park , about 15 km south of Rendsburg , 12 km west of Nortorf and 12 km north of Hohenwestedt . The federal highway 77 runs to the west from Rendsburg to Itzehoe. From 1901 to 1957 Luhnstedt was the railway station of the Rendsburger Kreisbahn . The Luhnstedter enclosure is located in the south of the village. The "Holzvogtstelle" was sold in 1845 by the Danish government. The buyer named the homestead "Margarethental" after his wife. The forester's building, which existed from 1870 to 1968, is a restored half-timbered building that is well worth seeing and is now privately owned. The forest with hiking trails is largely part of the State Forest Barlohe nature reserve.

geology

To the south there is a sandy soil mixed with clay, the middle is boggy and only partially sandy. The north of the municipality is covered by an approximately 100 hectare moor, which is partly used as extensive pasture area and enables hikes.

history

Finds indicate settlement as early as the Neolithic. To the east of the village urns are said to have been found that could have come from the Bronze or Iron Ages. The place was first mentioned in 1447 as "Lundstede". The place name probably means "settlement on the Luhnau". Luhn means something like swamp or damming, Luhnau means swamp stream or Staubach. Like other villages ending in "... stedt", Luhnstedt is a so-called Holstein original village. The existing vital water and wooded forests made the settlement possible early.

A village school was opened in Luhnstedt in 1750 and remained there until 1970. The former school building now serves as a community center and is an important event and meeting place for the village community.

In the Second World War, half of all Luhnstedter drafted men died at 30. 32.5% of all children lost their father in this way. Large groups of refugees reached Luhnstedt in the spring. From March 13 to April 20, 1945 alone, the small village accommodated and cared for 11,222 people and 3,475 horses. At the end of April 210 refugees were quartered. (For comparison: During the "refugee crisis" in 2016, around 20 refugees lived in Luhnstedt.)

From 1954 to 1957 Luhnstedt was an experimental village of the Schleswag . The energy consumption of a number of new electrical appliances made available to the residents, such as irons and potato steamers and a community freezer set up for this purpose, as well as new street lamps, was recorded over a period of about three years. The demand determined from this should point the way for the expansion of the power grid in Schleswig-Holstein. The specialist and daily press as well as the radio reported on the survey, there were inquiries from home and abroad and information events for interested visitors.

politics

From 1888 to 1969 Luhnstedt was the seat of the Luhnstedt office with seven associated communities. Today it belongs to the Jevenstedt district. Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the KWG electoral community has had six seats since the 2018 local elections and the AWGL electoral community three.

  • Fire brigade from 1884
  • Country youth from 1967
  • Country women's association Legan and the surrounding area from 1951

economy

The municipality is predominantly agricultural. Luhnstedt has its own water supply that is organized as a cooperative. The local grocery store is one of the oldest continuously family-run businesses in Schleswig-Holstein and received its "Concession for the operation of Hökerei" on November 22nd, 1842 from the Danish King Christian VIII. Tea and sugar expanded.
