Schacht-Audorf is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geography and traffic

Schacht-Audorf is located on the south bank of the Kiel Canal and borders directly on Rendsburg . The western part of the Rader Island between Borgstedter Enge and the Kiel Canal also belongs to the municipality of Schacht-Audorf . The Rader Insel can only be reached from the mainland via the municipality of Borgstedt . To the south of the village is the Schülldorfer See .

history

Archaeological finds prove a Stone Age settlement in the municipality.

The district Schacht was first mentioned in 1330 as Schachte , Audorf ten years later as Ovdorpe . Up until the Kiel Canal was built , the places were dominated by agriculture.

After the Holstein ironworks settled directly on the canal in 1900, the place quickly grew, as many of the workers lived here in Schacht-Audorf. Later other stone and wood processing industries settled in the community, as well as the only factory in Germany that produced gongs ( Paiste ). The Kröger shipyard , which was originally located in Warnemünde and has been part of the Bremen Lürssen Group since the mid-1980s , has been located in Schacht-Audorf since the Second World War . Since she shaped the community very much, a ship shell is depicted on a slipway in the community coat of arms.

On January 1, 2007, until then municipality and has with the communities of the former Office Osterronfeld to Eiderkanal together.

The Lürssen shipyard is the largest employer in the municipality. The drum manufacturer Paiste has its branch office in Schacht-Audorf.
