Developed by Kröger: 12 m² Sharpie

1928 founded the brothers Hans Kroeger (1905 to 1971) and Karl Kroeger (1902-1963) with the naval architect Walter Brauer in Warnemünde , the marina and shipyard Gebr. Kröger . The brothers were born in what is now the Rostock district of Gehlsdorf and received their professional training as a ship carpenter and shipbuilder at the Rostock Neptun shipyard . They then completed a degree in shipbuilding in Hamburg . After founding their company in Warnemünde, they initially carried out repairs on fishing boats, yachts and government vehicles. In 1930 they won a tender from the German Sailing Association for the development of a simple dinghy that should be suitable for self-construction. Their development of the 12 m² Sharpies was very successful, the shipyard received eight orders from Great Britain and ten from Germany. At the end of the 1931 sailing season, 28 Sharpies were already registered with the DSV and a total of 39 Sharpies were exported to Great Britain and the Netherlands. The dinghy was a popular regatta and hiking boat for many decades, and in 1956 it became an Olympic boat.

Until the beginning of the Second World War , the shipyard was able to build a large number of sea cruisers, R-yachts, dinghies and touring yachts. In 1941 a branch was established in Stralsund . During the war, production was switched to armaments products . Air traffic control boats were built in Warnemünde and wooden naval vehicles in Stralsund.

In 1945 the shipyard was dismantled by the Soviets and made public property. The Warnowwerft was founded on the grounds of the Warnemünder Werft with significant expansions , and the Volkswerft Stralsund on the grounds of the Stralsund branch .

In 1948 the Kröger brothers were able to establish their new shipyard in Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein . At the same time, a new start was made in Husum . Yacht construction no longer played a role in the concept of the shipyards.

The Kröger brothers went to Schacht-Audorf and built a new company on the Kiel Canal that built naval ships and freighters. In 1987 the Kröger shipyard was integrated into the Lürssen group and in 2003 delivered the first yacht, the Pelorus . Today, in addition to the repair and maintenance of naval and civilian ships, she mainly deals with the construction of new mega yachts from 65 to 90 meters in length for the parent company Lürssen.

The shipyard no longer exists under its own name at the place where it was founded.
