history

The Pelorus in the Neue Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven (2012)

The Saudi statesman Al Sheik Modhassan acquired the luxury yacht for around 300 million US dollars after its completion in 2003, but sold it to the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich the following year .

From September 2004, he had the yacht converted by Blohm + Voss within six months for around 12 million euros . During the renovations, a second helipad was installed on the bow and stabilizers , as well as minor modifications to the mast, stern and the exhaust system. Together with the Eclipse and the Sussurro , it formed the entrepreneur's private fleet. The American music and film producer David Geffen bought the yacht from Roman Abramowitsch in 2011. From the end of 2011 to May 2012 the yacht was waiting for a renewed conversion at the Neue Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven . In 2012 the yacht was sold to an unknown owner and has been chartered out ever since.

Technical data and equipment

The boat is of two 3,900  kW strong Wärtsilä driven engines of the type 12V26, which via reduction gears to two variable pitch act. The ship can thus reach a maximum speed of 20 knots . Four QSK19-DM diesel generators from Cummins Engine are available for the power supply. Furthermore, an emergency generator of the type NT855D from Cummins Engine was installed.

The interior designer is Terence Disdale . He traveled around the world to furnish the yacht and collected material for furniture and paneling. For example, he used leaves from the banana tree for the ceiling of the lounge, oak and slate for the floor, and the doors come from old Chinese temples. For all sorts of accessories he used fossil tree roots from Malaysia, bark from the Philippines and driftwood from Bali. Other materials used are bronze, chenille , iron, nickel, raphia and pewter.

The crew consists of 46 members.
