The New Jadewerft GmbH is a shipyard in Wilhelmshaven . She belongs to the Lürssen group.

history

At the end of the Second World War , the Wilhelmshaven naval base also closed. Despite the war, many former naval vehicles were still preserved after the closure, which were to be converted for civilian use. The large sea lock was also undamaged and could still be used.

Jadewerft GmbH

On June 2, 1948, the newly founded Jadewerft GmbH started work at the former power construction yard with 84 employees. The military government initially only allowed ship repair operations. The maximum number of employees was limited to 175. Both restrictions were lifted in September of the year it was founded. After initially only repairing ships, the shipyard began building barges, pontoons and ferries from 1950 onwards. Soon afterwards, the shipyard on the Osnabrück shore of the north port also began building coasters . The very first type of ship, a 299 BRT Kümos, was a success that was built many times over thanks to its large timber load-bearing capacity. It was not until the early 1960s that larger Kümotypes began to be produced, but the focus was kept on the size of around 300 GRT. In addition, special ships and individual structures were built again and again. In the two years 1967/68 the shipyard delivered no less than eleven ships between 382 and 999 GRT to the Bremen shipping company D. Sander. After a dry spell in the late 1970s, the yard finally had to file for bankruptcy in 1979.

New Jadewerft GmbH

After the bankruptcy, the shipyard was continued by new shareholders and traded as Neue Jadewerft GmbH . The Bremen volcano played a major role .

The Neue Jadewerft has been part of the Lürssen Group since 2004 . Today the shipyard has a workforce of around 100. The main focus is on ship repairs and maintenance, especially of marine vehicles. Furthermore, shipbuilding of all kinds is still offered. The shipyard has a floating dock with a load capacity of 8,000 tons and a slipway up to 1,800 tons as well as two shipbuilding and repair halls.
