Paiste is a Swiss family-owned company and manufacturer of drums - basin , based in Lucerne Nottwil . The company was founded in Germany in 1945 , but has been running the business from its headquarters in Switzerland since 1957. Alongside Zildjian and Sabian, Paiste is one of the world's leading cymbal manufacturers.

history

The musician and composer Michail Toomas Paiste founded a publishing house and a music shop in Saint Petersburg in 1901 , in which musical instruments were also manufactured and repaired. Business flourished until the upheaval in Russia in 1916, but the October Revolution had to cease business.

In 1917 he returned to his native Estonia and began to rebuild his business in Tallinn . Here he and his son Michail M. Paiste began to design and manufacture cymbals for concert and marching groups. In order to meet the tonal conceptions in modern music and the development of drums , the son began to develop his own concept, he manufactured cymbals according to the Turkish design, which he preferred to the Chinese. During this time he also developed the first gongs . The resulting instruments received awards and recognition and he began to export them to Europe , the USA and overseas.

During the Second World War , Michail M. Paiste was forced to leave Estonia in 1940 and began to rebuild the family business in Poland . The company struggled with the scarcity of raw materials caused by the war and the difficulty of maintaining international contacts.

Towards the end of the war, Paiste and his family left Poland as refugees in 1945, whereupon he rebuilt his business in Brunsbüttel ( Schleswig-Holstein ). Relocation of production to Burg (Dithmarschen) failed, so that in 1957 he founded a factory in Nottwil , Switzerland . The third generation , his sons Robert and Toomas, finally made the company headquarters in Nottwil the center of international business.

In 1981 a branch was established in the USA with the establishment of Paiste America. In 1995, after a 50-year absence, a branch was also set up in Estonia, and in the same year a plant in Spain . The German subsidiary is located in Schacht-Audorf .

Among the endorsers include drummer like Vinnie Colaiuta , Charlie Benante , Stewart Copeland , Nicko McBrain , Tico Torres , Jim Keltner and Ian Paice .
