Vom Ritchie , actually Stephen George Ritchie (born August 6, 1964 in Billericay , England ), is a British musician. Since 1998 he has been the drummer with Die Toten Hosen . Ritchie also drums with the Spittin 'Vicars , with whom he toured in 2003 and 2006, and with The Boys at their rare concerts. He is a member of Corner Boys , Wet Dog and Cryssis , and he supports T.V. Smith on his albums and occasionally on stage.

Musical career

TV Smith , Pascal Briggs ( Spittin 'Vicars ) and Vom Ritchie in Esperanza in Schwäbisch Gmünd on January 10, 2009

From Ritchie, back in Stanford-le-Hope ( Essex ) alive, first began in 1976 for Punk to interest when he interviewed by Street-Porter Janet with the Sex Pistols saw. He went on tour for the first time at the age of 13 during the school holidays with a cover band that played mostly songs by The Rolling Stones and The Beatles . In 1980 he joined the mod band "Jackel". He was also a drummer in the punk bands "Miracle Babies" and "Plus Support".

After college and a degree in economics, he first worked for an insurance company in London, where he quit after a year in order to join Doctor & the Medics as a drummer . The first single that Ritchie was heard on was a live EP . Happy But Twisted and The Miracle of the Age were the first professional releases he was a part of.

From Ritchie on December 15th, 2012
in the SAP Arena in Mannheim.

Doctor & The Medics landed the hit Spirit in the Sky in 1986 , a cover version of the old hit by Norman Greenbaum . The song landed at number 1 on the UK charts and the band performed on Top of the Pops . At the height of their career, Doctor & the Medics lost their fan base among young punks and had to perform at student parties. Shortly afterwards the band was finished.

Ritchie kept himself afloat with drum jobs with underground bands like "Junior Manson Slags" and "The Brotherland" or 999 . With the band The Brotherland he released the album Nightmares and Dreams .

In 1990 he met Stiv Bators , who let him take part in a project of well-known punk greats. The collaboration with Dee Dee Ramone and Johnny Thunders was planned , but the old dispute between Ramone and Thunders prevented further collaboration. Dee Dee left Paris before the recordings could start. With Neal X from Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Kris Dollimore from The Godfathers new members joined the band, who soon threw in the towel. At the first appearance under the name "The Living Dead Boys" only Bators and Ritchie were left. Alan Lee from UK Subs and Bryn Merrick from The Damned also joined the band. A tour was scheduled, but Bators died in a traffic accident in 1990. There was only a raw mix of the planned album, which is why it could not be released. As a result, the Ritchie got into financial hardship. The resulting recordings were finally released in 1997 as a posthumous Stiv-Bators album under the title The Last Race .

Vom Ritchie met Die Toten Hosen for the first time on December 19, 1991. Ritchie jumped in at the “last minute” as the drummer for The Yobs , who played as the opening act for the Düsseldorf band's Christmas concert. Within a few minutes, Ritchie had to rehearse the entire set of the band known as The Boys . There he met Campino , who was watching the soundcheck.

Together with John Plain , the singer of the band "The Boys", he then played in "The Crybabys". Vom Ritchie also performed together with the 1995 women's band B Bang Cider , where he met his future wife Mary. However, the band released only one EP. He recorded an album with Plain and Ian Hunter under the project name "Ian Hunter's Dirty Laundry" and also took part in the Honest John Plain & Friends album, where he could be heard in three songs with his later bandmate Campino. He then joined the Armageddon Dildos for three tours . On the album Speed he can be heard on two songs by this band.

Ritchie worked as a roadie for the music group Die Toten Hosen in the 1990s and was already in the credits of the albums Kauf MICH! (1993) and Opium fürs Volk (1996) mentioned. Vom Ritchie played their first concert with the band on September 1, 1998. He then took part in two of the group's concert tours and repeatedly stood in for Wolfgang Rohde , who was only able to work to a limited extent due to health problems with his spine. Vom Ritchie has been the band's permanent drummer since the album Immortal , although both drummers were involved in this production. In 1999 Ritchie also took over the drum role during a tour of Japan for the British band The Boys . Since then he has been drumming regularly at the group's sporadic live performances. The original drummer Jack Black only returned for guest appearances. Vom Ritchie recorded several album productions together with T. V. Smith and has been touring with the Spittin 'Vicars since 2003.

In 2007, Ritchie founded his own record company, Drumming Monkey Records . The first releases are the debut album Perfect Crime and the single Heart by the band "Wet Dog", which consists of Vom Ritchie, Richard Searle (ex-The Doctor & The Medics) and Anna Donarski. In addition, the T. V. Smith label brought out new album In the Arms of my Enemy . In 2007, Ritchie played drums at two Crass concerts in London, where Steve Ignorant was the only original member of the band and performed the album The Feeding of the 5000 live. In 2008 there was a reunion of the band "B Bang Cider", in which Mary Ritchie plays the electric guitar. With Vom Ritchie on drums, the album Teenage Wasteland was released in December 2008 .

Under the title The Mattless Boys , an album was released in October 2010 that Honest John Plain, Duncan Reid, Casino Steel and Vom Ritchie recorded together. The Cryssis project includes Vom Ritchie, singer and guitarist Dick York from Essex, guitarist Thomas Schneider from the Spittin 'Vicars and Trip Tom, bassist from the band Kind im Magen? from Sonthofen . Their joint album Simple Men was released in autumn 2011. Vom Ritchie played the drums for the recordings of the album “ Zeichen auf Sturm ,” by the band Nothing , which was released in 2011.

Vom Ritchie lives with his wife Mary and their son Jez in Düsseldorf. Jez appeared together with the singer Meg as Meg'n Jez, among other things as guests on the tour Der Krach der Republik in 2013 by Die Toten Hosen .
