Andreas Meurer , called Andi (born July 24, 1962 in Essen ) is a German musician and since 1982 bassist and songwriter of the band Die Toten Hosen .

biography

Andreas Meurer grew up with his older brother Joachim in Mettmann and attended the Konrad-Heresbach-Gymnasium there , where he graduated from high school. During a one-year student exchange in the USA , Meurer came into contact with punk , which you could clearly feel after his return. This gave rise to problems with his father, who banned him from entering the house, and Meurer had to do jobs like sticking up posters, distributing brochures or working as a roadie to finance the rent for his apartment himself.

From 1978 to 1982 Meurer was a roadie with the Düsseldorf punk band ZK . In 1982 he founded the band "Die Toten Hosen" together with Campino , Andreas von Holst , Michael Breitkopf , Trini Trimpop and Walter November and still plays the bass guitar there today. In the beginning, Meurer was only able to handle two strings on his bass guitar safely and unwound the remaining strings. After the album A Little Bit of Horror Show , ESP built him a three-string instrument, which he played until 1995.

Meurer also has the upper hand in the band's merchandising . During his school days in the USA, the artist Michael Roman taught him the technique of screen printing . Meurer still made the first "pants T-shirts" himself in his parents' cellar based on his designs. For a long time he has been working with the artist Susy Hertsch when it comes to unusual shirts and t-shirts, who now designs all of the Toten Hosen's stage clothing and founded the “Misprint” fashion label together with Andreas Meurer in 2003.

In September 2006, Andreas Meurer married his long-time girlfriend Carla Achenbach, who played a key role in the photo book Ewig Is Longest - Die Toten Hosen in color and black and white. JKP, Düsseldorf 2002 was involved.
